If you like the Jeep Wrangler model and open bed pickups at the same time, Jeep has good news in store for you. Jeep has decided to offer an open bed pickup truck in near future with the 2019 Jeep Scrambler pickup truck. Jeep is primarily known for its SUVs but it does have a long history when it comes to manufacturing pickups, which dates back to 1963. The news of this interesting merger was confirmed by Mike Manley, Jeep CEO at the Detroit Auto Show.
This upcoming pickup will be based on the next generation of Wrangler mode and will be manufactured in Toledo, Ohio, the home factory of this brand. Gladiator concept was released by Jeep in 2005 and it was based on RAM 1500 platform. Ever since, there have been rumors and speculations about of Jeep actually manufacturing a modern pickup and follow in the footsteps of previous trucks like CJ-10, Honcho, Gladiator, Comanche, and others. This upcoming pickup with is the second one to be based on Wrangler model after CJ-8 Scrambler. It will be the first Wrangler-based pickup in more than three decades.
Features and Components of the new Pickup
Since the underpinnings of 2019 Jeep Scrambler will be shared with regular Wrangler model, it is quite obvious that this pickup will also be having a huge percentage of aluminum in its body architecture. Being based on regular Wrangler model, this pickup will mainly be distinguished from the rest of the segment with its rugged appearance. As of now, there is no confirmation as to what extent will these models share the resemblance with each other.
Build quality
2019 Jeep Scrambler truck will be based on a re-engineered steel platform. But it will still be getting several aluminum components. Exterior components like hood panels and doors will be manufactured using mainly aluminum. This lightweight construction means that this new pickup will be able to offer a competitive fuel economy.
Interior design
It is possible that cabin design and features of this pickup will be based on that of regular Wrangler model. So, the cabin of normal Wrangler model is most likely to give you an idea of the interior features and design you can expect in this pickup. Unfortunately, more precise details regarding the interiors and exterior are still unknown; more information is expected to be released as its arrival time comes closer.
Powertrain
As far as engine options and specification is concerned, hardly any detail is available about the powertrain of 2019 Jeep Scrambler pickup truck. Jeep Gladiator Concept was powered by a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine the capacity of generating 163 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. IT was paired with a 6-speed manual transmission unit. 2017 Jeep Wrangler came with a turbocharged engine, which was never seen before in Wrangler model. It remains to be seen what Jeep has in store for its customers.
Competition, Arrival, and Price
2019 Jeep Scrambler pickup is expected to make its debut late in 2017. It will be arriving on the market by 2019. Ford Ranger and Honda Ridgeline are probable rivals of this upcoming pickup truck. Price of this model has not yet been revealed.
